Carrouges Chateau
Built between the 14th and 17th centuries, this superb chateau is surrounded by a moat with impressive entrance castle and gardens. Each year in early August, the National Fishing & Hunting festival takes place within its grounds. Guided tours of the interior are available.

Situated on the same hill as our property, the Mémorial and Museum depict the end of the long and bloody WW2 Battle of Normandy, in which Polish troops fought against the desperate attacks of Germans encircled in the “Falaise Gap” .
1 Falaise web William The Conqueror’s Castle
The birthplace of William the Conqueror can be found in the local town of Falaise. The 12th century keeps, which were restored from 1986 to 1997, succeeded an even earlier castle. An audio-visual tour (in English) is available.

Camembert
The village of Camembert can be found just 5km away. It was here that Marie-Harel and her daughter discovered the famous cheese in the late 16th century. Visits can be made to two museums and a local farm where Camembert is still produced.
4 American Cemetery web American Cemetery
Situated at Colleville – St – Laurent on Omaha beach, the cemetery has 9387 graves with a garden dedicated to 1557 missing in action. A 22ft bronze statue “The Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves” stands in the centre of the Memorial.

A picturesque fishing port characterised by houses with slate-covered frontages. Often frequented by artisit’s, it is home to the Saints Catherine Church, the largest church made out of wood in France.
Calvados Tasting
Brewed locally from distilled cider this “apple brandy” has a strong distinct taste. Several distilleries open their doors to the public for guided tours and tasting.
